South Korea's Joint Investigation Team has requested an arrest warrant for ousted President Yun Seok-yol. The reason was his attempts to impose martial law in the country and ignoring summonses for interrogation. Reuters reported this , UNN wrote .

Details

It is noted that the decision to issue a warrant for arrest will be made by the court after considering the request.

Yun Sok-yol was removed from office following an impeachment process initiated by parliament over his decision to temporarily impose martial law. The question of his permanent removal or reinstatement remains under consideration by the Constitutional Court, which is expected to issue a verdict within 180 days.

The first preparatory hearing was held on Friday. The request of Yun's lawyers to postpone the hearing was rejected, and the next hearing is scheduled for January 3.

Recall

Earlier, South Korean President Yun Seok-yol announced the introduction of martial law in the country: to “destroy pro-North Korean forces and maintain constitutional order.” Clashes broke out in Seoul between citizens and the military, who blocked the parliament building. The leader of the opposition Democratic Party, Lee Jae-man, emphasized that martial law is unconstitutional and contrary to the interests of society.

Opposition parties in South Korea initiated the impeachment of President Yun Seok-yeol due to the introduction of martial law.

South Korean President Yun Suk-yol has survived an impeachment attempt . However, the future of his presidency remains uncertain due to the crisis caused by the short-lived martial law decree.
