SBI exposes Kyiv law enforcement officer transporting psychotropic substances worth nearly UAH 5 million

The State Bureau of Investigation has exposed a police officer who was transporting 5 kilograms of PVP valued at 4.8 million hryvnias. The perpetrator used his official status to pass through checkpoints.

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation have exposed a Kyiv law enforcement officer who, according to the investigation, was involved in transporting large batches of psychotropic substances for further sale. This was reported by the SBI, according to UNN.

According to investigators, the man purchased prohibited substances in Kyiv and delivered them to the Zhytomyr region. The SBI notes that the officer expected to avoid inspections due to his official status while passing through checkpoints and document checks.

The law enforcement officer was exposed on the evening of May 13, 2026, during another drug transport. Initially, two bags of white powder were found on him, and during a detailed inspection, 5 kilograms of the psychotropic substance PVP were discovered.

The SBI stated that at "black market" prices, the value of the seized drugs is approximately 4.8 million hryvnias. According to operational data, the psychotropics could have been distributed in various regions of Ukraine.

The suspect was detained and notified of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 307 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – illegal acquisition, storage, and transportation of psychotropic substances in especially large quantities for the purpose of sale.

The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment. The issue of a preventive measure and the suspect's suspension from office is currently being decided.
