Russian army has used over 13,300 chemical munitions against Ukraine - Ministry of Defense

Since the beginning of the invasion, the Russian Federation has used more than 13,300 chemical munitions. The intensity of enemy attacks on the battlefield has increased rapidly during 2024.

The use of prohibited toxic substances has become a routine tactic for the Russian army. This was reported by UNN with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, the enemy has used more than 13,300 chemical munitions. Furthermore, according to the Ministry of Defense, the enemy's use of chemical munitions was episodic in 2023, but the intensity of attacks has risen sharply since 2024.

This information was voiced by the Deputy Head of the Main Directorate of Mine Action, Civil Protection, and Environmental Safety, Colonel Valeriy Veber, during a meeting of the Information Exchange Group on Technical Assistance to Ukraine of the G7 Initiative "Global Partnership Against the Spread of Weapons and Materials of Mass Destruction" in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova.

Veber also presented important project proposals to foreign colleagues:

  • strengthening capabilities in the field of radiation control and response to radiation threats;
    • safe handling of spent sources of ionizing radiation;
      • improving the level of environmental safety at military facilities of the Ministry of Defense.
