Russia is increasingly using new cruise missiles "Banderol" to attack the port infrastructure of Odesa, betting on their low cost and effectiveness. This is reported by Bloomberg, citing Ukrainian officials, writes UNN.
Details
According to the authorized representative of the President of Ukraine for sanctions policy, Vladyslav Vlasiuk, the development of the missile began back in 2021. It is intended to fill the niche between cheap Shahed-type kamikaze drones and significantly more expensive and accurate Kh-101 cruise missiles.
This is a very dangerous device. Most strikes on the port infrastructure of Odesa are carried out by "Banderol"
According to him, about 80% of strikes on the ports of Odesa, including Chornomorsk and Pivdennyi, this year were carried out precisely by such missiles. Their warhead weighs about 150 kilograms, and the speed is too high for Ukrainian interceptor drones.
Ukraine calls for strengthening sanctions
As Bloomberg notes, the cost of one "Banderol" missile is estimated at 150–300 thousand dollars. Due to the relatively low price, it is not profitable to shoot them down with expensive anti-aircraft missiles, particularly Patriot interceptors, whose stocks are limited.
Ukrainian officials also claim that a significant number of foreign components are used in the design of "Banderol", and Russia produces hundreds of such missiles annually. In their opinion, strengthening sanctions against the supply of these components could slow down production.
Spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy Dmytro Pletenchuk stated that due to the attacks, the operation of the maritime corridor has significantly slowed down, and more than 20 vessels have been damaged.
