Romanian President Klaus Iohannis approved the training of Ukrainian military on F-16 aircraft at a military base in Romania. The President informed the Parliament that he had approved the transit of equipment and materiel donated by Finland to Ukraine. He also gave his consent for about 50 Ukrainian servicemen to be trained to fly F-16s at the Fetsesti military base .
Reportedly, the president's information was sent to the defense committees and will be put to a vote at the next joint plenary session.
Officials did not say when the training would begin, but Digi24, citing sources, says that the Ukrainian military is expected to arrive at the Fethesti air base this summer. The F-16 training is expected to end at the end of the year.
By the end of 2024, Ukraine will receive the first F-16 aircraft.
Ukraine is already adapting its infrastructure for F-16 aircraft, which will allow it to perform missions from runways and stay on airfields.
