Work has begun in Romania to create the largest NATO military base in Europe. This was reported by euronews, UNN writes.

The size of a small town, covering an area of nearly three thousand hectares, the location is said to be able to permanently house up to 10,000 NATO soldiers and their families. The 2.5 billion euro project reportedly includes runways, weapons platforms, hangars for military aircraft, as well as schools, kindergartens, shops, and even a hospital.
Work at the NATO base has begun on the basic infrastructure, i.e. access roads and the power grid, and construction of a new runway parallel to the existing one will soon begin.
The government has reportedly allocated 2.5 billion euros for the project, which will turn the base in the Constanta district into the most important NATO facility in Europe.
Expansion work is well underway, and when completed, the base will be the largest in Europe. It is expected to surpass the similar Ramstein base in Germany and will be able to accommodate more than 10,000 soldiers who can come here with their families.
The project provides for adapted living quarters, nurseries, kindergartens, schools, shops, pharmacies, a hospital, i.e. everything necessary for soldiers and their families. In the new geopolitical context, when there is a war on the border, the development of the base thus strengthens NATO's eastern flank, the TV channel points out.
The base will occupy about 2,800 hectares with a total perimeter of 30 kilometers and will be able to deploy combat capabilities of any type.
