The German defense concern Rheinmetall has announced that it has received its first order from Ukraine for the construction of an ammunition plant. UNN reports with a link to the concern's statement.
Rheinmetall has received its first major order from the Ukrainian government for the construction of an ammunition plant in Ukraine, which was announced in February 2024 and will be the starting point for the project
The order includes full technical equipment of the plant up to its commissioning. Measures to provide the necessary infrastructure are currently underway in Ukraine. Production of ammunition at this facility in Ukraine is expected to begin within 24 months. Together with its Ukrainian joint venture partner, Rheinmetall will also be responsible for the operation of the plant.
The exact value of the order is unknown: the range is between 100 and 500 million euros.

In June 2024, Rheinmetall AG CEO Armin Papperger and Ukraine's Minister for Strategic Industries Oleksandr Kamyshyn signed an agreement to expand strategic cooperation at the "Ukraine Recovery Conference" in Berlin. A few days earlier, they inaugurated an armored vehicle plant in western Ukraine, operated by the Rheinmetall Ukrainian Defense Industry LLC joint venture. The first Lynx infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) from Rheinmetall is to be delivered to the Ukrainian armed forces by the end of this year, with local production to start as soon as possible.

In June, Rheinmetall received a record €8.5 billion framework contract from Germany for the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition, primarily to replenish the Bundeswehr's stockpile and support Ukraine, the Netherlands, Estonia and Denmark. Deliveries will begin in early 2025.
