Peace talks on Sudan have begun between US and regional delegations. US Representative Tom Perriello announced via social media that the first meeting with "international and technical partners" had opened.
However, only one of the two parties to the conflict has accepted the US invitation to negotiate. The Sudanese army is also not represented.
According to Perriello, in the absence of the army, the primary focus will be on technical issues, such as how to get more humanitarian aid into the country.
