The number of migrant arrests at the U.S.-Mexico border has increased for the third consecutive month, reaching its highest level during Donald Trump's second presidential term. This was reported by Bloomberg, citing data from U.S. Customs and Border Protection, according to UNN.
Details
In April, U.S. border agents detained 8,943 people at the southwest border. Although these figures remain historically low, the number of arrests is nearly 50% higher than in January 2025, following Trump's return to the White House.
The increase comes amid criticism of the Trump administration's immigration policy. Following the deaths of two Americans in separate incidents involving immigration agents in Minnesota, protests have erupted across the country and investigations have been launched. In March, Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was dismissed due to disputes over the agency's operational methods.
White House claims "most secure border"
The new Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin, stated that the Trump administration has abandoned the "catch and release" policy.
"Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, we are creating the most secure border in American history,"
At the same time, authorities continue to deploy additional forces and fund the construction of new border barriers.
