Ukraine has the right to self-defense, which includes the right to strike legitimate military targets in Russia. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during a press conference, and added that he welcomed the decision of the countries that eased restrictions on the use of their weapons by Ukraine, reports UNN correspondent.
"I think it's important to remember that this is an aggressive war that Russia started against Ukraine. Ukraine has the right to self-defense, and NATO allies have the right to assist in self-defense without becoming a party to the conflict. The right to self-defense also includes the right to conduct strikes against legitimate military objectives on Russian territory. Therefore, some allies have not applied restrictions at all... Some allies have reduced restrictions on the use of weapons supplied to Ukraine, and this allows Ukraine to strike military targets on the territory of Russia," Stoltenberg said.
He said he welcomed the fact that the allies had eased the restrictions.
"This means that Ukraine has the right to use the weapons it has received, its own weapons and those it has received or will receive from its allies to strike legitimate military targets on the territory of the Russian Federation," Stoltenberg said.
