Lithuania's Cabinet of Ministers will resign next Tuesday due to a new coalition. The majority will be formed by the Social Democrats and two other political forces.

The government of Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė intends to announce its resignation next Tuesday in connection with the reorganization of the ruling coalition. This was reported by LRT, according to UNN.

Details

"I can say that this day is currently scheduled, and the issue of resignation is to be raised,"

– the Prime Minister's advisor Ignas Algirdas Dobrovolskas told the BNS agency.

According to the law, the head of government must notify the President in writing of the Cabinet of Ministers' resignation. An extraordinary government meeting is planned for this purpose, after which the President will be informed of the decision on the same day.

New Coalition

Following the government's resignation, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda will have up to 15 days to submit a candidate for the new Prime Minister for consideration by the Seimas. It is expected that the leader of the Social Democrats, Mindaugas Sinkevičius, will be nominated for this position.

After the parliament approves the Prime Minister's candidacy, the new head of government will have up to 15 days to form the Cabinet of Ministers and submit a government program agreed upon with the President.

Distribution of Ministries

As reported, the leaders of the three parliamentary forces are set to sign a new coalition agreement as early as Thursday. The majority will include the Social Democrats, the Democratic Union "For Lithuania," and the Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Families Union.

According to the agreements, the Democrats will receive the ministries of energy, health, and agriculture. The Lithuanian Farmers, Greens and Christian Families Union will retain control over the ministries of justice and economy and innovation. The remaining nine ministries will go to the Social Democrats.

The new ruling majority is expected to have 75 deputies in the Seimas. The reformatting of the coalition took place after the Social Democrats' decision in early June to terminate cooperation with the "Dawn of Nemunas" party and invite the Democratic Union "For Lithuania" into the majority.
