Latvian border guards discovered an underground tunnel near the Belarusian border, which 15 people used to illegally cross the state border. UNN reports this, citing the State Border Guard of the Republic of Latvia.

The tunnel was found in the Skrudaliena Parish of the Augšdaugava Municipality. The illegal migrants were discovered by officers of the State Border Guard and the State Police, with the participation of a canine officer from the Lithuanian border service and a rapid response unit.
All 15 illegal migrants were returned to the territory of Belarus. At the same time, the Latvian border service notes that this is the first known case of an underground tunnel being used to illegally cross the border in this area.
Previously, no signs of a violation had been detected at this particular location, and no persons who had illegally crossed the state border had previously been detained there
