According to the head of government, the Cabinet of Ministers has already received the relevant instruction, and the process should start in the near future.

"In light of repeated appeals from Lebanon to begin direct negotiations with Israel," Netanyahu said, "I instructed the government yesterday to begin direct negotiations with Lebanon as soon as possible."

The negotiations "will focus on disarming Hezbollah and establishing peaceful relations between Israel and Lebanon."

Netanyahu also noted that Israel "appreciates the Lebanese Prime Minister's call today for the demilitarization of Beirut."
