The IDF has ordered the evacuation of residents in the city of Tyre due to Hezbollah rocket launches. The historic Al-Hara quarter, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is under threat.

The Israeli army has issued an evacuation order for residents of the Lebanese city of Tyre, specifically the historic Christian quarter of Al-Hara, which has fallen within an evacuation zone for the first time since the start of the current military operation against the Hezbollah group. According to the publication, the Israeli military states that Hezbollah militants are using areas of Tyre to launch rockets and drones into Israeli territory. Following the evacuation announcement, some residents left the city and headed for Beirut and other safer areas of the country. At the same time, many people, especially the elderly, decided to stay.

"I never imagined I could leave Al-Hara. It is a safe zone. We are not armed,"

– said local resident Jeannette Barbour.

According to her, she left with her daughter, while her husband and son stayed behind to look after the family business.

Historic District Under Threat

Tyre is considered one of the oldest cities in the world and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list. The city was founded by the Phoenicians over 4,700 years ago and has repeatedly survived sieges and wars. In recent years, the Al-Hara district has been popular among tourists due to its historic architecture and Mediterranean beaches.

Some residents have been forced to leave their homes for the second time in recent years. English teacher Lily Hawila said her family evacuated after new attacks, and the fate of their apartment is currently unknown.

Another resident of the city, Sanaa Abu Zeid, reported that during a conversation she learned of a strike on her street.

"We are concerned. We hope that we will be able to return home soon,"

– she said.

According to her, at least eight people were killed as a result of the shelling.
