The Biden administration is pushing through diplomatic channels, engaging its allies in the Middle East, to call on Tehran to reconsider its decision to militarily attack Israel.
After intense diplomacy during an emergency meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and an international conference with a permanent delegation to the UN, Iran issued a statement.
Tehran will respond to the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh at "the right time and in an appropriate manner." This was announced by Iranian Foreign Minister Baqeri Ali Bagheri Qani.
Meanwhile, U.S. officials are still working to broker a cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Officials told reporters last month that they felt they were the closest they had ever been to finalizing the pact. But talks have slowed in recent weeks following Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu's visit to Washington and his speech to Congress on July 24, as well as retaliatory strikes between Israel and Hezbollah.
