The President of Iran has ordered the restoration of network access, which had been restricted since February 28. This will allow for the dissemination of more information regarding the consequences of the war in the country.

Iran has decided to restore internet access across the country. This was reported by the Iranian state news agency Fars, according to UNN with reference to Sky News.

"The decree to return the internet to the status quo... has been communicated to the Ministry of Communications by the President," the media outlet quoted a source in the ministry.

The publication notes that the vast majority of Iranian citizens have faced an internet shutdown since the start of the war against the US and Israel on February 28 – more than 2,000 hours ago, according to data from the web monitoring site NetBlocks.

Only a few citizens were able to stay connected using expensive and advanced VPNs that bypass restrictions. If internet services return, it could mean that much more media content about the war's impact on Iran can be disseminated from the country.

However, access to the global internet prior to the shutdown was heavily restricted by the censorship of many websites, and this is likely to remain the same.
