According to the US Geological Survey, the center of the earthquake, which occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers, was about 63 kilometers west of the city of Ferndale.
The National Weather Service called on residents of the coast of Northern California, including in the San Francisco Bay Area, to move inland due to the threat of a possible tsunami. Later, the tsunami warning was canceled.
The state authorities said that are currently conducting an inspection of the territories for damage.
The earthquake occurred during a period of increased seismic activity in the state after decades of relative calm, the newspaper writes.
