In the Swedish town of Fagersta, an 18-year-old young man armed with a machete attacked high school students. A 17-year-old girl was killed, and three other people were injured. Two of the victims - 12- and 17-year-old boys - are in serious condition. The third, also a minor, suffered minor injuries and has already been discharged from the hospital
According to available information, the attack occurred at around 2:00 p.m., on the third day after the end of the summer holidays. Numerous police units, rescuers, and firefighters were working on the grounds of the school, which is attended by nearly 500 students.
The suspected attacker turned out to be a former student of the school. According to Swedish media, police officers shot him in the leg during his arrest. He is currently in custody. It was initially reported that the perpetrator was armed with a sword, but police later clarified that it was a machete. During a subsequent search of the school, law enforcement officers found the body of the deceased girl
Police conducted searches at two addresses linked to the suspect and questioned numerous witnesses. The motive for the attack is not yet known.
