In addition to the fortifications, Odesa Oblast, the largest region in Ukraine, is forced to repair kilometers of roads that are no longer critically unusable. Some of them have not been repaired since the 70s of the last century. In particular, the Rozdilna-Starostyno-Nadia road, which is being repaired now, UNN reports.
According to the State Enterprise Local Road Service, the road in question is 12,840 kilometers long. And no one has repaired it for almost 55 years.
"For a rather significant period of time, to date, no major or current medium repairs have been carried out, which has led to significant destruction of the road surface and, in general, loss of the bearing capacity of the structural layers," the Service says.
Moreover, the road connects the administrative and district center - the city of Rozdilna - with 10 settlements in the district, where more than 10 thousand people live. Therefore, this direction of the road is extremely important for the life of the settlements.
"These are public transport routes, delivery of food and essential goods, ambulance, the State Emergency Service, and in two settlements of Starostyne and Slobidka there are hub educational institutions that provide full-time education, so children from the surrounding villages of the Rozdilnyanska community will be brought in daily," the Service explains.
In response to numerous requests from the Rozdilnyansky City Council, the district state administration and local residents in 2023, the Local Road Service developed project documentation for road repairs at the expense of the community. The cost of the works as of the end of December 2023 amounted to UAH 931 thousand 518.00. Also, at the end of 2023, the decision of the Rozdilnyanska community provided for expenditures in the amount of UAH 6 million 40 thousand to repair the Rozdilna-Starostyno-Nadia road.
Earlier, UNN reported that in Odesa region, the condition of roads in some areas is critical. In particular, we are talking about the Rozdilna-Starostyno-Nadiya road (Rozdilnyansky district), the road from Novopavlivka to Perekhrestove (Zakharivska ATC), and the entrance to the village of Omarbia (Izmail district). These roads were last repaired in Soviet times, according to local communities.
The heads of the communities ask the regional administration to find a way to repair the buildings, as they also argue that the issue is about safety and saving lives.
