Customs officers found 2 kg of psychotropic substances in a parcel from Peru to Ukraine, which was found to contain a concentrate of the so-called shamanic drink known as ayawaska, Kyiv Customs reported on Friday, UNN reports.

"During the customs control of an international mail shipment from Peru to Ukraine, customs officers found two packages with a dark brown paste-like substance of 900 g each. According to the experts' conclusion, the mass submitted for examination contains particularly dangerous psychotropic substances, the circulation of which is prohibited in Ukraine," the customs office said on Facebook.
"It was found that the mass in the bags is a concentrate of the so-called shamanic drink known as ayawaska, a drink made by the indigenous people of the upper Amazon that has a psychotropic effect," the customs office said.
The recipient of the mail was reportedly an individual in Kyiv.
According to the Universal Postal Convention, the shipment of drugs and psychotropic substances is prohibited in all categories of mail.
Kyiv Customs drew up a protocol on violation of customs rules under Art. 473 of the Customs Code of Ukraine and jointly with the SBU conducted operational activities.
The substance was seized.
"As a result of joint measures, the channel for the supply of psychotropic substances to Ukraine has been blocked, and the SBU has served the suspect with a notice of suspicion of committing a criminal offense," the statement said.
