A former police officer was detained for spying for Russia and passing information about Ukrainian forces in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions, including with the help of pro-Kremlin blogger Serhiy Lebedev

Details

Another Russian agent was exposed by the SBU in Mykolaiv region. He was reportedly a former law enforcement officer who was dismissed from the National Police in March 2023.

The suspect worked for the Russian FSB and passed information to the enemy about the locations and movements of the Defense Forces in Mykolaiv and Odesa regions

- reported in the SBU.

The exposure was reportedly carried out with the personal assistance of Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko.

According to the investigation, the enemy informant is a resident of Mykolaiv. From 2016 to 2020, according to the SBU, he was in the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and periodically traveled to Russia, where he was involved in cooperation with the Russian special service. At the beginning of the full-scale invasion, he was tasked with returning to mainland Ukraine and joining one of the National Police units.

"While in office, he not only spied for the enemy, but also carried out subversive activities against Ukraine. It has been established that the Russian agent passed false information to Ukrainian defenders about the routes of movement of enemy military equipment," the special service said.

The suspect was later dismissed from law enforcement agencies for causing a drunken car accident, but continued to work for Russia.

As the investigation established, he used "liaisons" to communicate with the enemy. One of them was a pro-Kremlin blogger Serhiy Lebedev (better known by his pseudonym "Shaggy"), who is in the temporarily occupied Donetsk and works for the FSB, the SBU noted.

The detainee was searched. He was served a notice of suspicion and a measure of restraint in the form of detention was chosen.
