French DJ Kavinsky was found dead in his Parisian home on Tuesday evening, the Paris prosecutor's office said on Wednesday, July 29. He was 50 years old. Vincent Belorgey, his real name, was one of the iconic figures of the French touch house music direction, alongside Daft Punk, Justice, Cassius and DJ Mehdi.

The prosecutor's office clarified that a "check to determine the cause of death" had been initiated, noting that no suspect was found at the scene on Tuesday evening.

"France is losing one of its distinctive voices," said French Minister of Culture Catherine Pégard in a message on social network X. "His music, both danceable and nostalgic, will continue to pass from generation to generation and cross borders."

One of his most popular compositions will remain Nightcall - a synthwave hit with a gloomy atmosphere and a slow tempo, which was included in the original soundtrack of the film "Drive" (2011), a successful thriller starring Ryan Gosling. This composition gained a second life during the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024.

At the closing ceremony of the Games, the DJ performed at the Stade de France together with Belgian singer Angèle and the pop-rock band Phoenix, which performed Nightcall specifically for this event.

A self-taught pianist born in the Seine-Saint-Denis department, Kavinsky began his career in the early 2000s, performing, in particular, as a warm-up act for Daft Punk and taking the stage alongside other new names in electronic music such as SebastiAn. On July 31, he would have turned 51.
