On June 2, on his 39th birthday, Vyacheslav Sharpar, a former football player for Poltava's Vorskla, Lutsk's Volyn, and Kharkiv's Metalist, passed away. This was reported by the footballer's mother on Facebook, according to UNN.
Today it is very difficult for me to write these words. On June 2, our dear and blessed son Vyacheslav tragically passed away. The sea took him, a terrible accident. He came into our lives as a great joy and became a true gift from God for us. We had the happiness of seeing him grow, mature, dream, persistently pursue his goals, and achieve them, becoming a famous football player. We rejoiced in his successes, his strength, and his talent. He left behind the most precious legacy—four beautiful children, our grandchildren. And even today, when the pain seems unbearable, we thank God for every day that was gifted to us together with him
She reported that Vyacheslav's body is currently in Greece.
Ahead lies a difficult journey to return him home to Ukraine, so that we can see him off on his final journey according to our Christian traditions
She added that there are significant expenses ahead for the repatriation of the body and the burial, so she is asking for support.
The Ukrainian Association of Football also reacted to the footballer's death.
A native of the Dnipropetrovsk region, he played for a number of Ukrainian and foreign clubs. In particular, the former midfielder played for Vorskla, Volyn, Metalist, Naftovyk-Ukrnafta, as well as Sheriff, Atyrau, and Riga. He earned two caps for the Ukraine U-21 national youth team. The UAF expresses its condolences to family and friends
