As a result of the explosion, five people died and two were injured—one person suffered full-body burns, while the other sustained minor injuries. All the deceased were found dead at the scene.
The explosion presumably occurred while workers at the facility were performing cleaning operations related to explosives.

Hanwha Aerospace Co., a defense subsidiary of Hanwha Group, apologized for the deadly explosion at its Daejeon plant on Monday and pledged to thoroughly investigate the cause of the accident and manage its aftermath.
This was the latest deadly explosion at the facility, which develops powerful propulsion engines and tactical surface-to-surface weapon systems. In 2018, an explosion at the plant killed five people. The following year, another explosion occurred there, killing three workers.
