Robert Fico will discuss compensation for assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine with Ursula von der Leyen. The Prime Minister claims an acute shortage of funds due to the support for Ukraine.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico wants to discuss with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen the issue of reimbursement for weapons and equipment provided by Bratislava to Ukraine. This is reported by Aktuality, according to UNN.

Following the European Union-Western Balkans summit in Montenegro, Fico stated that he intends to raise this issue at the next summit later this month.

"This is a problem of an acute shortage of financial resources, because the resources that were supposed to be used to reimburse something were used directly for Ukraine,"

the Slovak Prime Minister said.

He also noted that he raised the topic of the Visegrad Four (V4) format at the summit. Fico hopes that after Slovakia takes over the presidency in July, the group will operate in a V4+ format, and that key EU representatives will also participate in the negotiations.

"I assume that soon this should also include the President of the European Commission, because V4 plus the President of the European Commission is a format that can resolve quite a lot," Fico believes.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico rejected the proposal by German CDU leader Friedrich Merz to make Ukraine an "associate member" of the EU.
