Polling stations have opened in Armenia and voting has begun in the general parliamentary elections, which all participating political forces call fateful, UNN reports with reference to "News Armenia".
Details
The publication notes that voting in the elections in Armenia will be possible until 20:00 Yerevan time. Voting is not conducted outside the country.
Starting from 12:00, the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia will report turnout data every 3 hours (with a 1-hour lag, meaning at noon it will be known how many citizens fulfilled their civic duty as of 11:00, etc.). It is expected that at approximately 23:00, the CEC of Armenia will publish election results for the smallest remote rural polling stations. The electronic vote count will conclude at 08:00 AM on June 8.
Context
The Parliament of Armenia is elected under a proportional system, meaning only through party lists. 18 political forces—16 parties and 2 party blocs—are competing for seats in the 9th convocation of the National Assembly of Armenia. The threshold for entering parliament is 4% for parties and 8% for party blocs. Notably, invalid ballots, including those intentionally spoiled, are not taken into account when summarizing the election results: the sum of valid ballots cast for all political forces and inaccuracies is taken as 100% of the ballots from which the percentage indicators of electoral competitors are calculated.
