The European Union may face the need to approve a new large-scale loan for Ukraine as early as 2027, despite the recently agreed financial aid package. Politico reports this, writes UNN.
Details
This week, the EU approved a loan of 90 billion euros (about 105 billion dollars), which is intended to cover a significant portion of Ukraine's budgetary and defense needs until the end of next year. At the same time, officials acknowledge that this may not be enough.
Rising Deficit
According to diplomats' estimates, Ukraine already requires an additional approximately 19 billion euros to cover its financial needs in 2027. This means the EU may be forced to revisit the issue of new aid earlier than planned.
It is also expected that part of the funding may be provided by partners, including Japan and the United Kingdom, though these funds have not yet been confirmed.
Dependence on Europe
Against the backdrop of the diminishing role of the US in supporting Ukraine, the financial burden is increasingly shifting to Europe. At the same time, Kyiv remains dependent on American aid, particularly in air defense and intelligence.
The material notes that the war against Russia has effectively become Europe's key security challenge, shaping the EU's future decisions on supporting Ukraine.
