As noted, on Monday, the government headed by Kaja Kallas convened for an extraordinary meeting, at which the Estonian Prime Minister and the entire government resigned.
"Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas handed in her resignation letter to President Alar Karis in Kadriorg," the statement said.
"I think everyone is sad to leave this building. It's a very hard job, but it's also very interesting, so I will certainly miss it, but now there are new challenges," the Estonian Prime Minister said in an interview with Delfi after her last press conference.
According to Kallas, the period when she headed the government was full of crises of an unprecedented scale.
Kaja Kallas, who is leaving the post of Prime Minister of Estonia, is expected to become the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. At the same time, she will become Vice President of the European Commission.
Until the new government is in place, Kallas will reportedly continue to serve as prime minister. She expressed hope that the new government would be formed quickly enough.
