Details
The football celebration in Lviv began as early as the afternoon. First, in Vynnyky, Lviv region, at the Bohdan Markevych Stadium, the winner of the all-Ukrainian tournament "Children's Cup of Four"-2026 was determined.
The tournament featured players born in 2013 from the teams that reached the semi-finals — "Dynamo", "Chernihiv", "Metalist-1925", and "Bukovyna".
In the final, the Dynamo Youth Football Club faced "Metalist-1925". Regulation time ended in a 1:1 draw. Chalyi scored for the Kyiv team, while Lazutkin scored for the Kharkiv side. Ultimately, the young Dynamo players secured victory in a penalty shootout — 4:3.
Later, the trophy the teams competed for was presented at Rynok Square in Lviv, where everyone interested could take a photo with the new Cup.
After that, the trophy was delivered to "Arena Lviv", where the decisive match took place.
Before the match
The teams arrived at the stadium closer to 17:00, but the pre-match training sessions were delayed due to an air raid alert.
Before the match, an award ceremony was held for the players who won the "Children's Cup of Four"-2026. The new head coach of the Ukraine national team, Andrea Maldera, attended the ceremony.
Interestingly, in July last year, an updated Ukrainian Cup trophy was presented, designed with a Cossack theme, featuring the slogan "Honor to oneself – glory to Ukraine". According to the design, a mace (bulava) is placed in the center of the trophy, which the team captain is supposed to lift above the Cup after the victory, symbolizing triumph.
However, before the start of the match, the mace was "stolen" from the Cup by unknown persons.
Later, after a performance, the mace was handed over to Junior Sergeant of the 92nd Separate Assault Brigade Serhiy Skakun, call sign "Mariupol", to be reinstalled. He also performed the symbolic first kick before the match.
In addition, before the starting whistle, a moment of silence was held to honor the memory of Stepan Kubiv, a Member of Parliament who passed away on Monday, May 18.
