Ukraine is seeing a sharp increase in demand for firewood; since the beginning of the year, sales volumes have nearly doubled compared to the same period in 2025. Despite the increased demand, sufficient timber stocks remain in warehouses. This was reported by the press service of the State Enterprise "Forests of Ukraine," according to UNN.
Foresters usually urge Ukrainians to stock up on firewood for the winter in advance and not to delay purchases until autumn. However, this year, firewood is being bought up more actively than ever,
On average, foresters ship 225,000 m³ of fuel per month. Such dynamics were previously observed only during the peak months of the heating season.
Nearly 1.1 million m³ of firewood has been sold to the population and social sphere facilities, which is twice as much as in the same period of 2025 (534,000 m³).
There are all the prerequisites to reach the highest level of firewood consumption since the enterprise's inception this year—over 3 million m³,
Firewood consumption statistics for previous years show the following figures:
- 2023 - 2.97 million m³;
- 2024 - 2.78 million m³;
- 2025 - 2.45 million m³.
Despite high demand, firewood remains available. Approximately 200,000 m³ of firewood is stored in the enterprise's warehouses. Each of the 1,340 forestry units constantly monitors the maintenance of sufficient stocks.
The cost of firewood depends on its group:
- Group I firewood (hardwoods with high calorific value) costs 1,400 UAH including VAT;
- Group II firewood (pine, alder) costs 1,100 UAH including VAT;
- Group III firewood (spruce, fir, softwoods) costs 950 UAH including VAT.
In addition to sales to the population, SE "Forests of Ukraine" supplies timber to the social sphere, budgetary institutions, and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine through tender procurement. Since the beginning of the year, 813 contracts have been concluded for the supply of 247,000 m³ of firewood, of which over 130,000 m³ has been shipped.
