The Giving of the Annunciation
The holiday was considered a continuation of the great feast of the Annunciation. In the folk tradition, the Archangel Gabriel, who brought the good news to the Virgin Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God, was called the Annunciation. On this day, it was customary to pray to the Archangel Gabriel as the patron saint of all who asked for his angelic help. On this day, people did not start any new business, did not buy clothes, did not sew or weave, because they believed that all this would be in vain. Folk tradition says that "any work on Gabriel is not for the future." People believed that Gabriel was the lord of lightning, because after the Annunciation, thunder already began during the rain. On this day, people tried not to do work related to fire, so that Gabriel would not cause a fire with lightning. But people believed that a lit candle brought from the church would protect against such a disaster.
