Following Donald Trump's recent victory in the U.S. presidential election, Canadian officials announced preparations for a possible increase in the flow of immigrants seeking to move north. Immediately after the election results were announced, online searches for relocation to Canada increased tenfold, raising fears of a repeat of the situation from Trump's previous term, when thousands of migrants headed to Canada in search of asylum.
The responsible services and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are already on standby to properly control the border and manage a possible influx of immigrants. To this end, Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland met with ministers responsible for border security and relations with the U.S. administration.
