BTS beat Taylor Swift to become Artists of the Year at the AMA Awards

The South Korean group BTS, consisting of seven members, has won the "Artist of the Year" award at the American Music Awards (AMA) for the second consecutive year, cementing their status as one of the world's biggest groups, UNN reports, citing the BBC.

This award, considered the ceremony's top prize, is just another jewel in the crown of the so-called kings of K-pop, who have been on a $1 billion world tour since returning from a nearly four-year hiatus in March.

BTS also received the "Song of the Summer" award for the lead single of their album SWIM, while label partners Katseye were named "New Artist of the Year."

"GOLDEN," the viral single from the animated K-Pop hit Demon Hunters, was named "Song of the Year," and Sabrina Carpenter received the "Album of the Year" award for the album Man's Best Friend.

BTS beat out Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Bad Bunny, and Lady Gaga in the "Artist" category, as well as Harry Styles, Tame Impala, and PinkPantheress in the "Song" category.

While AMA nominees are selected based on commercial performance, winners are determined solely by public vote, with voting taking place via the AMA website and social media.

This means these awards are largely a battle of fan bases – and there is perhaps no fan base as zealous as the so-called BTS ARMY, the publication notes.
