The UK government has ordered a "significant number" of Light Multipurpose Missiles (LMMs) for its armed forces from Thales UK. Hundreds of the missiles will be transferred to Ukraine. This was reported by the press service of the British Ministry of Defense, UNN reports.
Details
The order, worth £176 million, will reportedly equip existing and future short-range air defense assets for the British Army, such as Stormer combat vehicles, and will be carried out using the Royal Navy's Martlet maritime surface-to-air missile system, which will be deployed from Wildcat helicopters.
Weighing only 13 kg, the LMM can provide highly accurate defense against threats such as drones, helicopters, other aircraft, and small, fast maritime targets.
Hundreds of LMMs have also been donated to Ukraine, which is fighting to repel the illegal Russian invasion that began in February 2022
