UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed Dan Jarvis as a Minister of State for Defence, serving under John Healey. Jarvis previously worked at the Home Office and served as a paratrooper officer.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced that Dan Jarvis has become the Kingdom's new Secretary of State for Defence. This is reported by Sky News, according to UNN.

It is noted that Jarvis replaced John Healey in this position.

"My first duty is to keep the British people safe, and I will always do whatever is necessary to protect our national security. I am pleased to appoint Dan Jarvis as Defence Secretary as we strengthen our armed forces and respond to the growing threats our country faces,"

Starmer emphasized.

According to him, the current Labour government is "delivering the most resilient increase in defence spending since the Cold War."

"In a dangerous and volatile world, we will provide our armed forces with the capabilities they need to defend Britain and ensure our country's security,"

said the head of the British government.

Dan Jarvis has been the Member of Parliament for Barnsley North since 2011, and served as the Mayor of South Yorkshire from 2018 to 2022. When Labour entered government following the 2024 general election, he was appointed Minister for Security at the Home Office—a position he held until today.

Previously, Jarvis served as an officer in the Parachute Regiment from 1997 to 2011. During this time, he participated in military missions in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
