The bald eagle, which is at the center of the Great Seal of the United States, has finally made it into the US code after President Joe Biden signed the relevant law on Tuesday.

According to US media reports, on Tuesday Biden signed 50 bills, one of which was passed by the US Congress this summer, to give the bald eagle status as the official national bird.

Interesting:

The eagle has been considered the national bird of the United States for the past 242 years. But the bird turned out to be national in name only.

Some of the founding fathers, such as Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson, were tasked with creating a national seal, but simply could not agree.

Finally, recently, the people concerned and Congress have begun to push legislation with the intention of granting the American eagle status.

Minnesota resident Preston Cook has long hoped that the eagle would appear in the US code, even writing a draft law and sending it to lawmakers.

Cook described himself as a lifelong obsessive about the bald eagle, and committed to pushing for change when he learned that there was no official status for the bird in the United States. He wrote a simple piece of legislation that would change the code to declare that “the bald eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) is the national bird.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota) led a bipartisan group that introduced the bill to the Senate floor in July. Last week, the bill passed unanimously and then passed through the House of Representatives.

“It's a correction in history to make things right and make them the way they should be,” Cook said.

Recall

UNN reported that US President Biden approved the defense budget for $895 billion, despite some controversial items. The document raised concerns about restrictions on presidential powers and a ban on medical care for transgender people.
