Lviv City Council has decided to create a square named after Andriy Parubiy. It will split Vynnychenka Street in half, a move the head of the Regional Military Administration called a strange decision.

A square named after Hero of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy will appear in Lviv. Deputies of the Lviv City Council voted for the corresponding decision. This was reported by the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi, UNN reports.

Today, at the city council session, it was decided that a space named after Hero of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy will appear in Lviv. I thank the deputies. It is important to worthily honor a person who has done a lot for our state

- Kozytskyi reported.

At the same time, according to the head of the Regional Military Administration, the decision itself looks quite strange from the point of view of the logic of city toponymy: a part of Vynnychenka Street remains in Lviv, in the middle there will now be Andriy Parubiy Square, and then – Vynnychenka again. Therefore, there are no fewer, but more questions after such a decision.

I hope this is only an intermediate step, and the city council will return to this topic again. The toponymy of the regional center must completely get rid of the controversial markers of the past. We cannot be half-consistent in matters of national memory

- Kozytskyi summarized.

Now the monument to Viacheslav Chornovil, the building of the regional administration and the regional council, where Andriy was a deputy of several convocations, will have the address of Hero of Ukraine Andriy Parubiy Square
