The Pentagon canceled the deployment of 4,000 troops, but the letter got stuck in General Kukuła's email. Poland's Ministry of Defense only learned about this through the media.

The United States sent Poland information regarding the cancellation of the deployment of 4,000 troops to the country as early as the beginning of the week, but the letter "got lost" in the mail of the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces, General Wiesław Kukuła. This was reported by Politico, according to UNN.

Details

The Polish military was informed of the Pentagon's move last Monday, May 11, according to three sources from Kukuła's inner circle.

"But the message got stuck in General Kukuła's classified email," the publication notes.

As a result, the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the Polish military learned about the change in plans of the country's most important ally through the media. Army Times was the first to report on this.

Subsequently, U.S. military officials confirmed the change in plans regarding the troop deployment to Poland, although they did not disclose the reasons for the decision.

The Pentagon has since defended the move, calling it part of a carefully considered process.

The decision to withdraw the troops was made as a result of a complex, multi-layered process that takes into account the views of key leaders (U.S. military in Europe) and throughout the chain of command. This was not an unexpected, last-minute decision,

- said acting Pentagon spokesperson Joel Valdez.
