On Sunday, Cuba experienced another failure in the energy system: electricity went out again across the entire country, the state energy company UNE reported on social media.
Cuba has long been living under rolling blackouts due to worn-out equipment and the US energy embargo, which has halted regular fuel supplies to power plants.
This is just the latest episode in a series of grid collapses. Only 24 hours earlier, the entire western part of the country plunged into darkness.
Due to power interruptions, normal life in Cuba has become nearly impossible: with each outage, water supply is reduced, and ceiling fans stop working.
The publication notes that for a society accustomed to hardships, this is becoming an increasingly difficult ordeal: the country is stuck in a crisis that has lasted for months with no end in sight.
Residents of the most affected areas are venting their frustration by setting fire to piles of garbage and banging pots and pans.
Cuba's Energy Ministry stated that protocols for restarting the energy system are already being implemented.

The last time Washington allowed a single Russian tanker with 100,000 tons of oil to enter was in March. These reserves have already been exhausted. In addition to imposing the oil blockade, the Donald Trump administration has tightened sanctions against Cuban state companies, causing many foreign firms to suspend operations in the country.
The US has also brought charges against former Cuban President Raúl Castro, brother of revolution leader Fidel Castro, in a case involving two civilian planes shot down three decades ago.
Negotiations between Havana and Washington appear to be making little progress.
