A 5-year-old boy, Maksym, was taken out of occupied Zaporizhzhia and returned to his parents. This was reported by the Ministry of Reintegration , UNN reports.

Details
The department said that when the full-scale Russian invasion began, the child was staying with his grandparents in Zaporizhzhia region. Their village came under occupation, and the parents did not have time to take the child.
For two years Maksym lived without his parents. For security reasons, his mother and father did not dare to follow him to the temporarily occupied territory. The grandmother was also afraid to take her grandson out, because there were numerous Russian checkpoints in almost every village.
Eventually, the boy's mother contacted the Ministry of Reintegration's 15-48 hotline with the problem. Natalia Yemets, a representative of the ministry, together with Anastasia Khaliulova, co-coordinator of the Way Home project, developed an action plan and a return route for the child.
The Ministry of Reintegration is grateful to our partner, the Ukrainian Child Rights Network, and everyone who contributed to this case. Thanks to joint efforts, as of April 16, 2024, 86 children have been returned to the territory of free Ukraine as part of the Way Home project.
