President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Russian occupation of Zaporizhzhia NPP poses a threat to radiation safety and stressed the need to return the plant to Ukrainian control to ensure safety, UNN reports.
For more than two years now, the Russian occupier has been controlling Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP. And invariably, the Russian presence means a fundamental threat to the radiation safety of our country, the whole of Europe and the world. Russia is blackmailing the world with the threat of a catastrophe at ZNPP, using the plant's territory as a platform for attacks on Nikopol and other nearby communities, and storing military equipment and ammunition on the territory of ZNPP. Only the return of the plant to Ukrainian control will mean full compliance with all safety standards and, in general, the return of the situation around ZNPP to normalcy
The President emphasized that for decades Ukraine has guaranteed the highest level of safety of nuclear facilities. "And it will continue to be so, but for this to happen, the criminal Russian presence at ZNPP must stop," Zelenskyy emphasized.
