16 Ukrainian children, previously forcibly deported to Russia, were released and reunited with their families thanks to Qatar's assistance, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said late on April 24, UNN reports.
A group of 16 Ukrainian children and their families are in Qatar for medical, psychological and social rehabilitation. All of them were previously forcibly deported to Russia, but thanks to Qatar's assistance, they were released and reunited with their families
According to him, on April 24 in Doha, the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets and the State Minister for International Cooperation of the Qatari Foreign Ministry Lolwa Al Khater met with them.
"Thousands of other forcibly deported Ukrainian children still remain in Russia. It is painful to realize that time is passing and they are growing up far from their families and homeland. Together we must make every effort to bring every child home. And I thank everyone in the world who is helping us with this difficult task," the President noted.
At the same time, the Head of State expressed deep gratitude to Qatar and personally to the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for helping Ukraine in this vital area. "We look forward to further fruitful cooperation and the return of more of our children," Zelenskyy emphasized.
