Today, April 16, various events are taking place on the occasion of World Voice Day. The event was launched in 1999 in Brazil and quickly became popular in many countries around the world, UNN writes.

A person's voice is as absolutely unique as a fingerprint. Experts believe that the voice has more power than a musical instrument. They also claim that the voice can determine a person's character, as well as their age, weight, height, and even their social status.

The purpose of today's event is to draw people's attention to assessing the condition of their voice, if there are any disorders in the vocal apparatus, if they work in the communication field and it is important for them to have a longer voice endurance and a more convincing sound when communicating with people.

The human voice has been the object of attention of famous thinkers and healers since ancient times. Hippocrates believed that the source of the voice was the larynx, and he also wrote the first descriptions of the structure of this organ. The philosopher Aristotle and the orator Demosthenes paid attention to special training to eliminate voice and speech defects.

The medieval physician Avicenna wrote a scientific treatise on the mechanism of voice production, as well as the structure of the vocal apparatus and its connection to the brain. Avicenna also studied diseases of the vocal organs and how to treat them.

In the mid-nineteenth century, the Spaniard Manuel Garcia, an opera singer and vocal teacher, first used a mirror to examine the larynx, which made it possible to see how the vocal cords function. This method, called laryngoscopy, became the basis of a new medical specialty - laryngology, which specializes in the treatment and prevention of throat diseases.

Around the same time, the first serious scientific works on phoniatrics appeared , a medical discipline that deals with disorders of the vocal apparatus.

Today, animal rights activists and wildlife lovers can join the Save the Elephant Day, which was launched in 2012 to spread awareness of the need to preserve elephants on our planet.

The population of elephants in the wild is constantly declining. At the beginning of the nineteenth century, there were about 26 million elephants in Africa.

Massive uncontrolled hunting of these animals for ivory led to the fact that in the early twentieth century the number of elephants in Africa fell to 1.5 million.

Today, the number of elephants in Africa does not exceed 500 thousand.

To preserve the elephant population, a ban on ivory trade was introduced in 1989. But this did not apply to ivory stockpiles created before 1989.

Today, film fans can celebrate the Day dedicated to the iconic silent film actor Charlie Chaplin, who was born on April 16, 1889.

Chaplin belongs to the list of the most successful comedians of all time, because he brilliantly combined humor with tragedy.

In order to create an atmosphere of relaxation in the office and reduce the stress of employees, you can organize a Pajama Day at work today.

On April 16, companies organize pajama parties, with each employee choosing pajamas to suit their own taste or according to a chosen theme. Pajama Day helps to create a cheerful, friendly and positive mood among colleagues, which, in turn, will increase the level of work efficiency.

Today you can also join the Stress Awareness Day.

A stressful psychological state has a negative impact on human health in general, as almost all diseases are caused by stress.

The body needs psychological stress for high-quality brain function, but only in small doses. If a person is constantly stressed, does not relax, and exhausts himself, his health will deteriorate over time. Living under stress causes both mental and physical illnesses.

Another important event today is Semicolon Day. This event, which was started in 2016 by Amy Blewell, has nothing to do with punctuation.

The woman's father committed suicide in 2013. Therefore, the purpose of today's event is to inform the world about the problem of suicide, to raise awareness of mental health issues, and to provide assistance to those who have survived a suicide attempt.

The semicolon symbolizes an unfinished life: you have to keep living, because it is not yet a point. On April 16, people share their own stories of hard times and get tattoos with a semicolon on them.

Amy Blewell herself, unfortunately, also committed suicide in 2017.

According to the church calendar, today is the day of remembrance of the holy martyrs Agapia, Irene, and Chionia.

Three sisters lived in Italy in the third century. They were orphaned at an early age, and from a young age they decided to devote their lives to serving the Lord.

The girls were very beautiful, but they refused all suitors, even the ruler. This made him angry, and he ordered the sisters to be executed. They were burned at the stake.

On April 16, Iryna, Halyna, and Leonid celebrate their name days.
