General Carsten Breyer, Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, believes that in 5-8 years the Russian army will be able to attack NATO territory. Moscow produces more than 1,000 tanks annually, while the 5 largest NATO countries have only half that number. He said this in an interview with Tagesspiegel, UNN reports with reference to Welt.
We are seeing the Russian army oriented to the West. In five to eight years, Moscow's armed forces will be equipped with the material and personnel to attack NATO territory
According to him, Moscow annually adds more than 1,000 tanks to its armed forces. Meanwhile, the five largest European NATO member states have only half of this number. In particular, Germany has only 300 combat vehicles in service.
"If we add to this potential the intentions that can certainly be read in Putin's speeches, we should be alarmed. My job is to think about this worst-case scenario. For the Bundeswehr, this means that we have to be prepared for this possibility in five years. This is the only way to deter." However, the new threat situation has not yet arrived everywhere," the general added.
Also, the Bundeswehr Inspector General believes that no significant changes are expected on the front in Ukraine, but the situation in the country still depends on support.
