On July 30, the world celebrates two important holidays under the auspices of the UN — the bright International Day of Friendship and the serious World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. According to the new church calendar, Orthodox believers in Ukraine honor the apostles from the 70 Silas and Silvanus, as well as the martyr John the Warrior, reports UNN.
International Day of Friendship
An official UN holiday established in 2011. Its main idea is that friendship between people, countries, and cultures can inspire efforts to ensure peace and build bridges between societies.
World Day Against Trafficking in Persons
An important human rights date. It is designed to draw the attention of the global community to the plight of millions of victims of modern slavery, as well as to encourage governments and organizations to actively fight this global crime.

Among the people, the holiday was called "Day of Silas" or "Silas and Silvanus." It was believed that on this day, Saint Silas puts special healing power into herbs and roots, and the rye in the fields fills with strength.
For those who follow the old (Julian) calendar: On July 30, the memory of the Great Martyr Marina (Margaret) of Antioch is honored. In folk tradition, the day was called "Marina the Fiery" or "Marina with Lazarus." During this period, strong thunderstorms with lightning without thunder were often observed, which were considered dangerous for the harvest and eyesight, so peasants avoided looking at them.
