According to British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps, NATO members must urgently increase their defense spending beyond the 2% of GDP target to strengthen defense in the current "pre-war world.

NATO countries should urgently increase their defense spending in order to at least reach the mandatory 2% of GDP for defense spending for NATO members. This was stated by British Defense Minister Grant Shepps in an article for The Telegraph , according to UNN

Details

According to him, the allies must recognize that we live in a "pre-war world.

It is noted that last year only 11 NATO members reached their two percent goal, first set almost two decades ago. And France and Germany were on the list of those who spend the least on defense.

Earlier this year, 18 countries are expected to reach the goal of allocating 2% of GDP to defense.

We need to look beyond this target to strengthen our defenses. However, some countries still cannot reach even two percent. This cannot go on. We cannot afford to play Russian roulette with our future. Today we must once again think urgently about the future of the alliance. We have moved from the post-war world to the pre-war world

Addendum

In addition, British Foreign Secretary Cameron made a similar appeal during a two-day trip to Brussels for the NATO Foreign Ministers' Summit.

According to him, 2% of defense spending is "the best way to prepare for the American elections in the fall.

Recall

Polish President Andrzej Duda has called for raising the requirement for defense spending by NATO countries from 2% to 3% of GDP.
