Amid the escalation of the war between the US and Iran, shipping in the Strait of Hormuz remains minimal - at least six vessels passed through the strait this week. This was reported by the editorial staff of UNN with reference to Reuters.
Details
Shipping took place primarily in Iranian waters. In particular, the chemical tanker Vast Plus, which is subject to US sanctions, also passed through these waters.
At the same time, most of the vessels were bulk carriers, and Reuters was unable to determine if more than six vessels actually sailed through the strait. However, in recent days, the average shipping intensity has been about seven vessels per day.
Additional Information
US President Donald Trump called on Iran to sign an agreement after several days of conflict resolution efforts ended without results.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have put forward a proposal to charge vessels a fee for passing through the strait.
As a reminder
The new Supreme Leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, stated that after the start of the war by the US and Israel, a "new page is opening" for the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. He also added that the new administration "will bring peace, progress, and economic benefits" to all countries in the region.
