On Thursday, November 21, the Verkhovna Rada supported in the first reading the draft law on amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Childhood" to protect the rights of deported and forcibly displaced children (No. 9495). According to the information posted on the Children of War website, 19,492 children are currently considered deported, and 646 children are considered missing
According to the explanatory note to the document, the purpose and objectives of the draft law are to introduce a legal definition of deported and forcibly displaced children, legal grounds for adopting a procedure for returning such children to the territory of Ukraine where public authorities exercise their powers, their reintegration and adaptation.
The document amends the Law of Ukraine "On Protection of Childhood", which proposes:
- provide for the definition of a deported or forcibly displaced child;
- to provide that the procedure for returning to the territory of Ukraine, where the state authorities exercise their powers, reintegration and adaptation of deported and forcibly displaced children is determined by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the procedure for creating, maintaining, and accessing the Register of Information on Children Deported or Forcibly Displaced by the Russian Federation.
