The governor of North Sinai, Mohamed Shousha, told UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, who had just arrived in Egypt, that about 7,000 trucks were waiting in North Sinai to deliver aid to Gaza. However, due to Israeli inspection procedures, they cannot deliver the aid.
The comments came in a statement from Shousha's office as the UN chief arrived in El Arish in Egypt's northern Sinai, where much of the international aid for Gaza is delivered and stored.
Guterres is expected to visit Egypt's border with Gaza later today to renew calls for a ceasefire and the war that has raged for more than five months.
