The State Emergency Service and the Ministry of Education and Science have developed three options for arranging ground shelters for schools. This will allow about a thousand schools to start full-time education this year, and 300,000 students to return to offline learning by the end of 2024.

Three options for arranging ground shelters have been developed for schools, and the government has approved them, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on Tuesday, indicating that the decision should allow about a thousand schools to start full-time education this year, UNN reports.

"It is important that we have clear, reliable standards for safe school spaces where it is not possible to use underground shelters and where the security situation allows. To this end, the SES and the Ministry of Education and Science have jointly developed three options for arranging ground shelters, which we are approving today. Communities will be able to implement them depending on the need and level of threats in the settlement and region. As a result, about a thousand schools will be able to start the process of full-time education this school year," Shmyhal said on Telegram.

According to Taras Melnychuk, the government's representative in parliament, on Telegram, the government has approved the proposal of the Ministry of Education and Science for a pilot project to create protected spaces (physical protection rooms) in educational institutions. The Procedure for the implementation of the pilot project has been approved.

According to Shmyhal, the comprehensive strategy aims to return 300,000 schoolchildren to safe offline learning by the end of 2024. The availability of shelters is the main prerequisite. UAH 2.5 billion has been allocated this year for their construction. "It is important that these funds are spent efficiently on the ground," the Prime Minister emphasized.
